Re: Enron
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 11:43 AMSaw it when it was in theatres. Loved it. Was impressed with how much insider footage/audio material they obtained. I think Roger Ebert said this, which I agree with. It's surprising (and to me, sad) that more people aren't pissed off about this, especially granted what this doc revealed. It was the highest-grossing doc of 05, but even with that, I didn't get the feeling that it was all that popular. I'm glad he won an Oscar for his new doc Taxi to the Darkside. Haven't seen that one though, and he actually just released another doc on Hunter S. Thompson!!! Alex Gibney is on a roll this year!!!

Re: Enron
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 2:34 PMI liked this one too. The director, Alex Gibney, is a prolific documentarist whose more recent films, "No End in Sight" (about the fiasco in Iraq, esp. decisions made in the spring of 2003) and "Taxi to the Dark Side" (about the torture practices of the U.S. in Afghanistan, Iraq & Gitmo),are also worth watching, IMHO. -

Re: Enron
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 2:48 PMAlex Gibney didn't do No End in Sight. Well I know he didn't direct it, at least. It was Charles Ferguson. Another great doc!!! Glad it was a fellow nominee at the Oscars. -

Re: Enron
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 3:57 PMMaybe not directed, but definitely involved -- maybe producer? anyway, good docs and great work. I think documentaries are soon becoming more reliable sources of info about world events than most main stream media (MSM) outlets.
Just wish they were more widely viewed. -

Mon, April 28, 2008 - 4:17 PMYeah I feel the same way. I'm a film graduate pursuing a career in feature doc writing/directing. For now, I'm working for the A&E series Intervention. Love it here!!!! -

Mon, April 28, 2008 - 6:02 PMSounds good, Le. I have a friend over at the History channel -- or at least he was before he got scooped up to do a documentary in China. Oh the places this industry can take you. Hope your progress is as you expect it.

Mon, April 28, 2008 - 7:35 PMWhat is intervention about? Sounds like something I could seriously use about now. -

Re: Enron
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 11:41 PMDan,
Is it just me, or is China drawing a lot of American doc makers right now? Everywhere I turn I hear of a doc being shot in China. I guess there are a lot of issues there that can be covered esp. with its economic growth and the Olympics coming up. Actually I was born there and visit my relatives quite often. A few years ago I tried to shoot a project comparing the state of drug laws over there vs. here in America. It kinda felll through for various reasons but if you wanna read about what I was developing and shooting, here's my website...

Mr. M,
Intervention is a weekly series on the A&E network where we document real addicts and their families. Usually our subjects are alcoholics or drug addicts but we've had a few episodes on other addictions and we're trying to expand more in those directions for the future. Our format is pretty straightforward and observational-style. Our only major involvement is that we help the family try to get the addict into treatment, which is sorta the catch of the show. It's been running for several years now and is one of the highest rated programs on A&E. Hope you get a chance to catch it sometime!!!
